Day 3 – Universal Studios Taster Day

There’s so much to do across the Universal parks, and I was keen to check out the Harry Potter areas, we decided to spend Day 3 at Universal.

The plan was simple.  Pick up the tickets, rake around Universal Studios, look around the Harry Potter stuff then get the Hogwarts Express over to Islands of Adventure and check that out to see what it had to offer ready for a more focused trip later in the holiday.

Then, it started to rain.  We were wet anyway, we thought, so what would it hurt?  Famous Last words!!

Being Florida we were half expecting an afternoon storm – sometimes with thunder and sometimes not.  They usually go as quickly as they come – not this one.  We took shelter for a while by the “restrooms” and then it eased.  “That’s the end of that” we thought – how wrong we were.

As we continued our sortie to Jurassic Land the rain returned – with a vengeance!

We tried to go on but the rain got heavier and heavier and, in the end, we had to admit defeat. The trouble was we were at the far end of the park and it was a long walk back to City Walk, let alone the Car Park.

We had no choice but to brave it.  Dawn and Sam donned their ponchos but Aaron, Liz and I braved it.  “How wet could we get?” we said.  “We were already wet.”

How wrong we were.  The journey back seemed to go on forever and we got wetter and colder as the rain hit our backs, forced into them with the wind.  It was probably 75 degrees but SOOOO cold – or I was anyway.

We took shelter in doorways and under overpasses just to get some respite but they provided little sanctuary and the air-conditioning blowing out of the shops only made us feel colder.

Eventually we made it back to City Walk and then to the Security Checkpoint where the Car Parks fanned out from.

I knew there was no way I wanted to drive back in a wet T-shirt.  The cold air conditioning – even if turned down, was going to make it uncomfortable.  Fortunately there was a gift shop at the Security Point so I bought s dry T-Shirt and we made our way back to the car.  /sure, I would have to sit in wet shorts but I’d have to live with that.
